Meet our founder
Hey clica! My name is Cinthia Martinez. I was born & raised in Sinaloa. Growing up Latina meant you have to be feminine , sports were for men, gyms are off limits & if you dont look like those novela actresses you were strongly critized. As a teen I struggled to fit in, I started facing body dysmorphia at the age of 12. I realize I didnt look like the stereotype Latina, small waist, big hips... perfect body, yup that was not me. Sadly it wasnt until my mid 20s that I discover lifting, and it was not longer about the weight on my body, but the weight on the bar! Lifting empowered me, it made me feel fuerte & unstoppable. While at my gym I met other Latinas who struggled with similar issues, we shared with each other, we yelled during work outs, we wanted to watch each other succeed! It was then that I realized there was not a brand/community that celebrated us, the lack of representation in the fitness community was obvious and it was time to do something about it! I created Latina Lifters, for me, for you & for all those women who felt like they didnt have a place, women who have been told they need to lose weight in order to be in a gym, or to stop lifting before they get "too big". We are here to tell the world we love ourselves, we love our culture... we are Latina Lifters!
